Cozy is not a hobby, but it is a good thing to send

Cozy is not an interest. Nobody has a cozy skill or a cozy shelf of books. What it actually names is a way somebody would rather spend an evening, and knowing that about a person is a real thing to know. I pack every box myself here in Canada and write your message onto the card by hand before the lid goes on.

Eleven boxes for staying in, at $99 and $119, and eight of the eleven come in two sizes.

This is the shelf people land on when they know the person well and cannot name why.

The boxes I would send a homebody

These are filed under half a dozen different occasions in my catalogue. What they have in common is that every one of them is a blanket, a pair of socks, a candle or something hot, and usually more than one of those.

Showing all 11

Which one, then

There are eleven here and most of them look alike at a glance, so the honest way to choose is by the one thing in each that is different: what the soft part is made of, and whether the box is for one person or two. If the number is the part you are stuck on rather than the box, how much to spend on a gift in Canada is the better read.

Fleece, knit or wool

Four boxes from $99 to $119: the Cozy Comfort Box, the Warm Hug Box, the Premium Cozy Comfort Box and the Premium Healing Comfort Box. Fleece is the one that survives a dog and a washing machine. Knit is the one that looks like something they chose. The heaviest of them is the one to send if they are always cold and will not say so.

If you want the smallest complete version

One box from $99 to $119: the Relax & Unwind Box. Socks, a candle and a tea is a whole evening and a whole gift, and it is the one I send to people I like but do not know well. Eight boxes from $99 to $119: the Warm Hug Box, the Cozy Comfort Box, the Cozy Retreat Box, the Cozy Gratitude Box, the Cozy Recovery Box, the Relax & Unwind Box, the Cozy Date Night Box and the Sweet Scent Home Box.

If it is for two people

One box from $99 to $119: the Cozy Date Night Box. Sized for two people on one couch. The only other exception here is aimed at the room rather than at anybody in it, and everything else on this shelf is for one person.

It got cold this week

Good week to send someone something warm. I pack every box by hand, one at a time, and write the card myself. Put a name in and it goes on the card by the window.

Two sizes on a box, and where the bigger ones are

The boxes on this page run $99 and $119, and eight of the eleven come in two sizes. The larger size of a box is everything in the smaller one and about two more things, picked the way the rest of it was picked. On this page the larger size is usually a heavier blanket or a second warm thing rather than a different idea.

Eight boxes on the site run a ladder of three sizes instead, and the luxury boxes at the top of it are the fullest things I pack. If you came here meaning to spend more than this page asks for, the links under this are the shortest way there.

Nobody keeps a blanket wrapper. They keep the card.

You type the message when you order, up to 280 characters, and I write it out in pen on a real card and lay it on top. A cozy gift has no occasion attached to it, so the card is the only thing in the box that says why it turned up.

If you are stuck, people write things like:

"Cancel something this week.""No reason. That is the point.""Stay in. I insist."

If the box is decided and the card is the part you are stuck on, here are a few you can send as they are, or change at checkout.

  • For no reason at all"There is no occasion. I just thought your evenings sounded bleak."
  • For somebody far away"Wish I could come over. This is the next best thing I could find."
  • For a rough month"You do not have to do anything with this. Put it on and sit down."

The card, the tissue, the tape and the rest of what happens to a box before it leaves.

Other things they might be into

Cozy usually overlaps with something more specific. If one of these is nearer the mark, it is a better page than this one.

If the evening has something on the screen in it, the snacks belong with the blanket and the whole thing is on the page for a night in.

If the staying in is really about rest rather than comfort, the bath salts and the eye masks live on the self-care shelf and go further in that direction.

And if what they actually love is the cup rather than the blanket, the tea boxes are built around that and half of them have a blanket in anyway.

Questions people ask me

Is a cozy box just a blanket with things around it?

Mostly, yes, and I would rather say so than dress it up. Almost every box on this page has something soft, something warm to drink or both, the one exception being built around a candle, and the differences between the rest are the material of the soft part and how much else is in the box. Each box has its own page, and that page says what is in it, so you can check that it really is what this one claims.

Is this an appropriate gift if nothing has happened?

It is the best shelf on the site for exactly that. There is no occasion attached to any of these, nothing in them refers to an event, and the card carries whatever reason you want to give. A box that turns up on an ordinary Tuesday lands harder than one that arrives on a date everybody was expecting.

Which one is warmest?

The three at the top of the price range have the heaviest throws in them, two knit and one sherpa, and two of those add socks. The fleece ones are lighter and wash better. If the person is genuinely always cold, pick from the larger pair rather than the smaller ones.

What are the two sizes?

The larger size of a box is everything in the smaller one and about two more things, picked the way the rest of it was picked. The boxes here run $99 and $119, and eight of the eleven come in two sizes. Nothing is padded out to reach a number.

How does it get there?

Shipping is free anywhere in Canada and a box is 1 to 7 days in transit. There is no same-day option and no arrival date on this page. There is a field at checkout where you pick the delivery date you would prefer. No price on anything inside the box, so it opens as a gift rather than as a number. All sales are final, so check the address before you order.

What people mean when they search for a cozy gift

Almost nobody types cozy into a search box because the recipient collects blankets. They type it because they know how that person likes to spend an evening and there is no category for that. Cozy is the word people reach for when the thing they know about somebody is a mood rather than a hobby.

Which makes it a surprisingly good thing to buy on. A hobby gift can be wrong in a way the owner will notice immediately, because they know the field and you do not. Nobody is an expert in their own blanket. A heavy throw, a pair of wool socks and something hot is right for the person who wanted it and harmless for the person who did not.

Every box here is packed by hand in Canada and sent with a card written by hand in your words. Shipping is free anywhere in Canada and a box is 1 to 7 days in transit. If none of these is it, every box on the site sits in one grid, sorted by price.

While you are here

If you are not sure which box to send a homebody, tell me who it is for and roughly what you want to spend and I will tell you what I would pack. I read every message myself, at team@swipegifts.com.
