Ramadan gift boxes for the table and the long days

A Ramadan gift is really a gift to a table. What arrives gets opened at sunset with whoever is in the house, passed round and finished within a week, which is why every one of these is food and drink rather than an object. Dates, tea, honey, something sweet for after. I pack each of them by hand here in Canada and write your greeting onto the card myself.

Four boxes for Ramadan, $99 and $119, and the rest of what I pack underneath.

There is no alcohol in any box on this page, and none of them is a meat product.

Four boxes for the month

Four boxes, from $99 to $119. Three of the four come in two sizes. The larger size of one is that same box with about two more things in it, picked the way the rest of it was picked. Two of them are built around the evening meal, one is built around the one before dawn, and the fullest is for the house that feeds everybody all month.

Not quite it? Every box on the site is in one place, sorted by price and by who it is for. Browse all of them and pick something else for the table.

About the month

Ramadan moves about eleven days earlier every year and the first fast is confirmed locally rather than printed on a calendar, so there is no date anywhere on this page and there is not going to be one. A box that turns up in the few days before the month starts is the easiest one to place, because the kitchen is being stocked anyway.

Sending it during the month works just as well and often better: it gets opened at iftar with people in the house. Shipping is free anywhere in Canada and takes 1 to 7 days in transit. I can't promise an exact arrival date, so order with room around whichever week you are aiming at. You can pick a preferred delivery date at checkout, which tells me when to send it rather than when it will land.

Other boxes that suit Ramadan

Each of these is sold here for another reason as well, so nothing on this page renames them.

If you want to spend more than this

These four stop at what these boxes cost, and for a gift that is going to be opened and shared at a table that is the right end of the scale. Eight boxes on the site run a ladder of three sizes instead: $119 for the smallest, $189 for the middle one and $299 for the fullest box I pack.

If you are sending to the household that hosts your whole family every year, the two below are $299 each and are the largest boxes I pack. Neither of them is a Ramadan box and both are personal rather than for a table, so the card would be carrying the occasion. Nothing on this page is a smaller gift for costing less.

Or start from every box I make, sorted by priceThe whole range, $70 to $299, including the sizes between these and those.

The card, and what to write on it

Ramadan Mubarak or Ramadan Kareem is enough on its own, and either is right. If you want to add a line, the one that lands is about missing them rather than about the fasting: most people spend part of this month a long way from the table they grew up at. You type it at checkout and I write it out by hand.

Stuck on the card? People start with something like:

"Ramadan Mubarak.""Thinking of you this month.""Wish we were at your table."

There are more lines worth borrowing in my guide to writing a gift card message.

How to choose a Ramadan gift

Almost every gift sent for Ramadan ends up on a table with other people around it, so the question is which table and which part of the day. That is a more useful split than price, and it is the one these four are built on.

For the evening meal

Two boxes from $99 to $119: the Ramadan Date & Tea Box and the Ramadan Iftar Box. Dates first, which is how most people break a fast, and then something warm with them. Both are made to be opened at sunset and shared out rather than put away in a cupboard.

For the meal before dawn

The Ramadan Suhoor Box at $99 or $119 is the only one of the four about the early meal, and almost nothing gets sent for it. Anybody up at four making breakfast in the dark for a month will notice that somebody thought about that end of the day.

For the house that feeds everybody

The Premium Ramadan Mubarak Box at $119 is the fullest one I pack for this and it has something to serve from in it, not only things to eat. There is one household in most families doing the cooking thirty nights running, and they are the ones who get sent the least.

If you are sending from outside the family

Send food, keep the card short and write Ramadan Mubarak on it. A colleague or a neighbour sending a box gets it right by keeping it simple, and there are boxes in the grid above for a house rather than a person if you would rather send something for the kitchen.

Where this one sits in the year

Ramadan ends with Eid al-Fitr, and the two get sent for differently: one is for a month of evenings at home and the other is for a single day of visiting. Both are here, and so is the shelf people use for the host afterwards.

When the month ends, the Eid boxes are the ones for the day itself, and that shelf also covers Eid al-Adha about ten weeks later.

If you have been fed at someone else's table all month, the thank you boxes are the straightforward way to say so once it is over.

And for somebody spending the month a long way from their family, the thinking of you shelf has no occasion attached to it at all.

You are not expected to send all of them. It is worth knowing the next one is here when it comes around.

Questions people ask me

What is a good Ramadan gift?

Food for the table rather than an object for a shelf. Dates, tea, honey and something sweet for after the evening meal all get used inside the month, which is what makes them easy to receive. The Ramadan Date & Tea Box at $99 or $119 is the one I would send.

Is there alcohol or anything with pork in these boxes?

No. None of the four Ramadan boxes contains alcohol and none of them contains a meat product of any kind, and the same is true of every box named in the grid on this page. What I cannot claim is a halal certification, because I do not hold one and I am not going to imply otherwise. If you want a specific item checked before you order, email me and I will read you what is on the label.

When should a Ramadan gift arrive?

The few days before the month starts are the easiest, because the kitchen is being stocked anyway, and a box that turns up during the month is opened at iftar with people there, which is better again. The dates move about eleven days earlier each year and the start is confirmed locally, so I do not print one and I would order with two weeks of room around whichever you are aiming at.

Can I send it straight to them?

Yes. Put their address in at checkout and type your message, and I write it onto the card by hand before the box is closed, so the note from you is the only thing in there with words on it.

Do you ship anywhere in Canada?

Yes, free anywhere in the country. Shipping is free anywhere in Canada and takes 1 to 7 days in transit. I can't promise an exact arrival date. You can pick a preferred delivery date at checkout, which tells me when to send it rather than when it will land.

Can I send a box back?

All sales are final. Every box is food, skin care and other things that can't be sold on once they have left here, and each one is packed by hand to order. If you have a question before you buy, write to me at team@swipegifts.com.

Ramadan gift boxes, packed by hand in Canada

A gift sent for Ramadan is not really a gift to a person. It is a gift to an evening: it gets opened at sunset, put out with whatever has been cooked, and finished by whoever happens to be in the house that night. That is the whole reason every box on this shelf is food and drink rather than something to keep. Dates to break the fast with, tea for afterwards, honey, and something sweet for the end of the table.

There are four of them, from $99 to $119. Three of the four come in two sizes. The larger size of one is that same box with about two more things in it, picked the way the rest of it was picked. Two are built around the evening meal, one is for suhoor before dawn, which almost nobody sends anything for, and the fullest has something to serve from as well as things to eat, for the household that does the cooking every night of the month.

Every box is packed by hand here in Canada and ships free anywhere in the country. There is no alcohol in any of them and nothing in them is a meat product. There's no price on anything inside the box. You write the greeting at checkout and I copy it onto the card by hand, and that is the part that says the thing the box cannot: that you would rather have been there.

While you are here

If you are not sure which one to send, write to me at team@swipegifts.com and tell me who it is for. I read every email myself and I answer them.
