Teacher gift boxes for the end of a long school year

A teacher gets thirty of these in the last week of June, and they remember about two. The ones they keep are the ones where somebody wrote down the specific thing that happened to their child that year. About the last week of June

The end of the school year is the one deadline on this shelf, and everybody hits it in the same seven days. Shipping is free anywhere in Canada and takes 1 to 7 days in transit. I can't promise an exact arrival date, so order two weeks out rather than on the Monday of the last week. You can pick a preferred delivery date at checkout, which tells me when to send it rather than when it will land.

Teacher Appreciation Week in early May is the other window, and it is a better one in some ways: far less arrives, so what does arrive gets noticed. A thank you in February, for no reason at all, is rarer still and lands hardest of the three.

These four are one size, $119, and there is no larger version of a teacher box. For a gift from one family that is usually the right end of the scale anyway: several school boards set a limit on what staff may accept, and a single gift that is obviously expensive puts the teacher in a difficult position rather than a pleased one.

The card is the part teachers keep

Ask a teacher what they kept from twenty years of last weeks and it is a drawer of cards, not a cupboard of mugs. The ones that get kept name a moment: the week your child started putting their hand up, the thing they said that stuck. You type it at checkout and I write it out by hand.

Stuck on the card? People start with something like:

How to choose a teacher gift

Two things decide this: whether it is coming from one family or from the whole class, and whether they are going to open it at school or at home. Everything else is detail, and the card matters more than any of it.

If it is from one family

Two boxes at $119: the Coffee & Fuel Box and the Tea & Stationery Box. Both are the right size for a single family gift: enough to be a real thing, not so much that it puts anybody in an awkward position. Write the card about your own child rather than about teaching in general.

If the class is going in together

If it is the last day of the year

The Summer Self-Care Box at $119 is for the person who is about to sleep for a fortnight. A teacher in the last week of June is running on nothing, and a box about stopping suits that better than anything for a classroom.

If they are retiring

A teacher finishing a career is a different occasion from a teacher finishing a year, and the boxes made for it are on another shelf with a card that can be signed by a whole staff room.

Teachers get a lot of gifts in the last week of June and almost all of them are variations on the same three objects. What they keep is the cards.
