Congratulations gift boxes for a win somebody actually worked for

Somebody you know pulled off the thing they had been chipping away at for months, and by the time you get round to marking it the group chat has moved on to lunch. That is the opening. A box that turns up a few days later, on its own, says it again when nobody else is saying it any more, and it says it in your handwriting rather than in a notification.

The group chat moved on to lunch. This turns up after it, in your handwriting. I pack every box by hand here in Canada.

Four boxes for a win, $99 and $119, and the rest of what I pack underneath.

A win with a word of its own, like a new job or a promotion, has a shelf of its own further down this page.

Four boxes for a win

Four different boxes rather than four sizes of one, from $99 to $119. Three of the four come in two sizes. The larger size of one is that same box with about two more things in it, picked the way the rest of it was picked. What goes in shifts with what is good this season, so the page describes a box rather than listing it.

Not quite it? Every box on the site is in one place, sorted by price and by who it is for. Browse all of them and pick something else for the win.

When to send it

There is no date on a win, which makes this the easiest of my shelves to get right. Everyone says well done in the first two days and then it goes quiet, and the quiet is the part worth aiming at. A box in the second week reads as somebody who was still thinking about it after the noise stopped.

I can't promise an exact arrival date, so if you are aiming at a particular evening, order with a week or two of room around it rather than up against it. Shipping is free anywhere in Canada and takes 1 to 7 days in transit. You can pick a preferred delivery date at checkout, which tells me when to send it rather than when it will land.

Other boxes that suit a win

Each of these is sold here for another reason as well, so nothing on this page renames them.

If you want to spend more than this

These four stop at $119, which is what these boxes cost, and I am not going to pad one out to reach a rounder number. Eight boxes on the site run a ladder of three sizes instead: $119 for the smallest, $189 for the middle one and $299 for the fullest box I pack.

If the win is the kind where you want to spend properly, the two boxes below go higher and they are $299 each. Neither of them is a congratulations box, so the card would be doing the work of saying why it turned up. Nothing on this page is a smaller gift for costing less.

Or start from every box I make, sorted by priceThe whole range, $70 to $299, including the sizes between these and those.

The card is the part that says what the win was

The box gets eaten or used up. The card goes in a drawer, and a year later it is the only thing left that says what they did. You type the message at checkout and I write it out by hand on a plain card, and it is the only thing in the box with words on it.

Stuck on the card? People start with something like:

"You did the thing.""Nobody handed you that.""Well done, seriously."

There are more lines worth borrowing in my guide to writing a gift card message.

You did the thing you said you were going to do, which almost nobody does. Well done.

How to choose a congratulations gift

The useful question is not how big it should be. It is where they are going to open it. A win at work gets opened at a desk with three people standing over it, and a win that took years gets opened at home with the door shut, and those are not the same box.

If it happened at work

Two boxes from $99 to $119: the Sweet Win Box and the Charcuterie Congratulations Box. Both are made to be shared out where they land, which matters, because a box opened in an office is opened in front of people whether the person wants that or not.

If it took them years

The Grand Celebration Box at $119 is the fullest one I pack for this, and the only one here I would send on its own with no explanation. A long win is the case where the size of the gesture is part of the message.

If you do not know them that well

The Celebratory Treat Box at $99 or $119 is the safe one, and I mean that as a compliment. Nothing in it assumes anything about their house, their diet or their taste, and there is nothing alcoholic in it to get wrong.

If two people won it together

Some wins belong to a pair: the offer that means a move, the loan that finally went through, the thing one of them could not have done without the other. These are the boxes on this page with two of something in them.

Wins that have a word of their own

This shelf is for the good news that has no name attached to it: the exam, the offer, the licence, the paper that finally got accepted. Plenty of wins do have a name, and those have shelves of their own with boxes made for them.

If the win is a job they start in a few weeks, the new job boxes are built for the first week somewhere strange rather than for the day the offer landed.

If it is a title at the place they already work, the promotion shelf has the version of this that survives being opened at a desk with the whole team watching.

And if somebody finished a degree, the graduation boxes are written for the awkward gap between the ceremony and whatever comes after it.

You are not expected to send all of them. It is worth knowing the next one is here when it comes around.

Questions people ask me

What do you send someone who just got good news?

Something they can open the day it lands, and a line that names what they actually did. That is why I would send the Charcuterie Congratulations Box at $99 or $119: it is food for two, so it turns into an hour with somebody rather than a thing on a shelf. Every box here is packed by hand in Canada and goes out with a card written in your own words.

Is a congratulations gift box all right to send a colleague?

Yes, and it is one of the few gifts that works across a desk without reading as too much. Nothing here is personal in the way clothing or scent would be, there is no price on anything inside, and you can have it sent to the office or to their home. If the win was announced publicly, the boxes with something to share in them are the ones that survive being opened in an open-plan room.

Is there alcohol in a congratulations box?

No. None of the four boxes made for this has alcohol in it, and where one has glasses in it, the glasses come empty. Whatever gets poured into them is up to whoever is standing there, which also means the box can be sent to someone who does not drink without anyone having to say anything about it.

Can I send it straight to them?

Yes. Put their address in at checkout and type your message, and I write it onto the card by hand before the box is closed, so the note from you is the only thing in there with words on it.

Do you ship anywhere in Canada?

Yes. Shipping is free anywhere in Canada and takes 1 to 7 days in transit. There is no minimum to reach and nothing added at checkout. I can't promise an exact arrival date, so if you are working to an evening, order with room around it. You can pick a preferred delivery date at checkout, which tells me when to send it rather than when it will land.

Can I send a box back?

All sales are final. Every box is food, skin care and other things that can't be sold on once they have left here, and each one is packed by hand to order. If you have a question before you buy, write to me at team@swipegifts.com.

Congratulations gift boxes, packed by hand in Canada

Most wins get marked badly. A message goes out in the first hour, a few people reply, and then the thing that took someone eight months is over as a topic by the afternoon. A box is slower than that on purpose. It turns up after the noise, it has to be opened with two hands, and the card in it says the specific thing that happened rather than the general thing everyone said.

Every box on this page is packed by hand here in Canada and ships free anywhere in the country, from $99 to $119. There's no price on anything inside the box. You write the message at checkout and I copy it onto the card myself before the box is closed, so what they read is your sentence in ink, not a receipt with a note field on it.

If the win has a name of its own, there is probably a shelf for it. A new job, a promotion, a graduation and a first place all have boxes written for the particular awkwardness of that moment, and they are linked further up this page. If it does not have a name, this is the shelf, and the card is where you give it one.
