Same box and the same handwritten card in all three. The size decides how full it is. What goes in changes with the season, so I describe it by how it feels rather than listing it. The photos show the style and the quality; the one that arrives will be its own.

The card is the part they keep.

You type the message when you order, up to 280 characters. I write it out in pen on a real card and set it on top, so it's the first thing they read. It reads like a note from you, not something from a warehouse.

How to choose a birthday box

Start with how close you are, then set the budget. For a good friend, $99 to $119 is the usual range, which covers every box under $100 and the Signature size above them. For a parent, $119 to $189 is the honest middle, and the Signature size at $119 sits at the bottom of it. A partner, or a birthday with a zero on the end, can justify the top of the range: the Premier size at $189, the Luxury size at $299, or the luxury boxes for her and for him at $299. Each of the three sizes has its own palette: the navy one, with something to snack on, something to toast with and a candle to light afterwards; the cream one, with good coffee, a pair of stoneware mugs and something soft; or the white one, with a heavy blanket, a pair of glasses to raise and somewhere to write the year down.
