You do not have to be in Barrie.

Barrie curves around Kempenfelt Bay at the western end of Lake Simcoe, an hour north of Toronto on Highway 400 and the end of the GO train line at Allandale Waterfront. It is a commuter city and the gateway to cottage country, with Georgian College downtown and the ski hills of Horseshoe and Snow Valley just outside town.

Order from anywhere in Canada or outside it, put the Barrie address in at checkout with any apartment or buzzer number, and the box goes straight to them. I am one person packing boxes in Canada, not a shop on their street, so what arrives is the same box and the same card whether they live in Barrie or three provinces away.

One place in Canada, free shipping to every address in the country.

Sending one to Barrie.

Georgian College sits near the north end of town, the waterfront along the bay is the recognisable heart of the place, and the ski hills at Horseshoe and Snow Valley are twenty minutes out. Muskoka cottage country starts not much further along the highway.

An hour up the highway, where the city ends and the lake weekend starts.

One box, three sizes.

The box I send most often, matched to the person rather than the date. What goes inside changes with the season, so I describe each size by how full it is rather than listing it.

No two boxes are exactly alike. Every photograph shows the style and the quality rather than the exact box, and every occasion has its own shelf.

Start with the occasion.

The same boxes, sorted by the reason you are sending one. Every shelf ships free to Barrie.

Where I ship in Barrie.

Free shipping reaches every address in Barrie, with no surcharge for any neighbourhood and no minimum order. A few of the areas boxes go to:

  • DowntownThe waterfront core along Dunlop Street, curving around the head of Kempenfelt Bay.
  • AllandaleA historic south-end neighbourhood, once its own village, now home to the waterfront GO station.
  • PainswickA large southeast residential area built out through the 1980s and after, mostly family housing.
  • HollyA southwest community of newer subdivisions with schools and shopping close at hand.
  • Letitia HeightsAn established north-end neighbourhood on the higher ground above the bay.
  • ArdaghA west-end area bordering the Ardagh Bluffs, a large protected tract of forest inside the city.

Why people send a gift in Barrie.

A Georgian College graduation

Georgian graduates students into the trades, health care and business each spring, and many stay in the region. A box sent to their own place marks the step without another trip up the highway.

The end of a commuting winter

A lot of Barrie households make the run down the 400 to the Toronto area, and the snowbelt makes winter mornings hard work. A gift that arrives in the thick of that season is well timed.

Opening the cottage

Barrie is the gateway to Muskoka and Simcoe cottage country, and the May long weekend is when the season starts. A host gift for whoever is opening the place is a natural fit.

A first house north of the city

Barrie and the townships around it keep drawing families priced out of the Toronto area. A housewarming box is an easy welcome for someone starting again an hour north.
